Accidental Gunshot Wound Sinks Pecos Banker in Home
Joel Daniel, 35, president of Pecos Savings and Loan, was shot in his abdomen at his home on 1750 Jackson Blvd around 11 p.m. Wednesday. The bullet from a .38 caliber pistol lodged in the bathroom wall. surgery was performed at Odessa Medical Center Hospital with Daniel in guarded condition.

Prosecutor recalls Marin County shootout and slayings
In a San Jose courtroom, Marin County Assistant District Attorney Gary Thomas described the Aug. 7, 1970, Marin County Civic Center ambush. He testified that three abductors were fatally shot and a fourth wounded during the gun battle that killed Judge Harold Haley and others.

Pecos City Officials Sworn In At Council Meeting
Reeves County Judge Darrell Glover swore in E. W. Schmidt as mayor and Garland Matthews and Carl McGee as city councilmen. Matthews named mayor pro tem. Schmidt led with 1857 of 2082 votes and McGee won 911 to 816 for second place. The meeting included a zone change hearing for Buddies Supermarkets and a tour to Roswell to inspect sewage facilities for possible packing plant prospects.

Pecos Downtown Lions Club will offer the Dale Carnegie course in Pecos with Jesse Stephens announcing the program. Pecos businessmen tour SWIG cottonseed mill on Balmorhea highway
A group of ten Pecos business men toured SWIG's cottonseed oil mill as part of Pecos Chamber of Commerce and Texas Industrial Week. Guided by SWIG manager Bob Bickley, they saw a facility crushing over 38 000 tons of cottonseed this year, with sales projected above 3.5 million and a payroll exceeding 400 000.
