Absentee voting for city school board and county school board elections drew a combined 1,048 voters by the closing of early balloting boxes. Clerks reported record interest across the three elections with turnout rising as ballots were cast.
Volume 89, Number 166 reports 444 absentee votes in school board races and 382 absentee ballots in city elections. Ma rilea Parsons notes 225 ballots were cast in the final two days, with 75 Monday and 150 Tuesday, as voters prepare for two mayor seats and two council terms amid a six‑candidate city ballot.
In Pecos County voters show unprecedented absentee turnout aided by 65 plus early voting rules and spring break student ballots. Incumbent A L Gibson faces Frank Kelley in Precinct 2 while Mrs Parsons notes broad interest as May 1 primaries loom and Reeves County eyes three election processes Saturday.

The Reeves Memorial Hospital Board selects Vance Kelley, 41, of Dallas, as new administrator succeeding Jerry Taylor. Kelley arrived to assume duties after 65 days of screening 32 applicants from three states. He comes from DeVaney Clinic Dallas and Baylor University Medical School roles. salary $19,000 annually. The county hospital is building a $2.5 million facility set to open in late 1977.
Rueben Gonzales is sworn in as a deputy sheriff for Reeves County Sheriff A B Nail. Former Pecos city police patrolman resigned March 26 after 3 1/2 years on the city force to join the county department.
Senator Lloyd Bentsen outlines views on energy and agriculture during a Panhandle Press Association keynote in Amarillo. The schedule includes a noon speech at Hilton Inn, 1 30 p m ceremony at Amarillo City Hall, a Borger reception, a Pampa senior center event, and Abilene breakfast before continuing on a campaign tour through San Antonio and Dallas Bicentennial events with Mrs Lyndon B Johnson.
