A citizen committee on Thursday Sept 4 says petitions to disincorporate and recall present Town Council members are not accumulating signatures quickly enough. They label the recall a lengthy and expensive burden on taxpayers.
The Pinal Gila Counties Health Planning Council sponsors a public caucus on health care at 7 p.m. Monday at the Payson Elks Lodge. The meeting gathers consumers and providers to identify needs and set priorities for funding and services across Pinal and Gila Counties.
The group reported 300 to 350 signatures on disincorporation petitions circulating for three weeks. The council planned to review petitions at the November meeting, noting a recall election would be unnecessary with a general election next spring. Don Taylor said four people would run in the general election, but he withheld names.
The Arizona Outdoor Recreation Coordinating Commission will study October plans for a 20 acre town park north of the rodeo grounds. The project, a town chamber venture, includes picnic facilities, a baseball field, tennis, horseshoes, shuffleboard, playground, barbecue pits, parking, a recreation building, restrooms, and trees with an estimated cost of 245070 dollars.
The Pine Fair opens Friday and Saturday with entries accepted today Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. except livestock which must be in place by 9 30 a.m. Saturday. The event features 100 exhibit types and a 4-H section with entertainment on both days.
The Payson Chamber of Commerce invites entries for naming the fiddler statue outside the Chamber building at Main Street and Highway 87. Entrants of all ages need not be Payson residents. winner announced September 28 at the Arizona Old-Time Fiddler's Festival.
Clubs and organizations are rushing to claim remaining booth space for the Fall Festival at the rodeo grounds on September 27 and 28. Dorothy Donovan, chamber of commerce manager, notes the event pairs with the Fiddler's Contest and honors a Bicentennial old-time theme. Others may sign up by contacting the Chamber of Commerce.
The Payson School Board discussed providing bus service to Round Valley but cited a narrow poorly surfaced road as unsafe in bad weather. About 14 students would use the route, currently walking up to 1.5 miles to a bus stop. The board also approved staff changes and hires and sought half of a $1,500 contract for Vick with Eastern Arizona College.
Rain fell daily in the Payson region this week totaling .87 inch or 22.09 millimeters. The heaviest rainfall occurred Sunday while the U S Forest Service logged .46 inch or 11.68 millimeters.
