Debate over ordinance split in Payson town government

Grady Harrison 86 Pioneer Of Payson Dies
Payson community mourns Henry Grady Harrison 86 who died Oct. 13 at the Arizona Pioneers Home in Prescott. A longtime Payson resident since 1913 he was a mail carrier freighter mechanic miner and civic leader. Born in Socorro New Mexico he helped found Payson’s early auto freight line and hauled materials for mining and commerce. He married Nellie Blade in 1915 and returned to Payson in 1916 after stints in California and Roosevelt.

State Fair Payson Day Highlights Community Booths
Payson representatives will present a short program at the Arizona State Fair on Tuesday at 4 30 p m. during Payson’s showcase of local booths honored daily through the 17 day event October 21 to November 6. The fair will honor communities from around the state with Payson sharing news over the rugged Apache Trail and Bush Highway.

Payson Girls Set to Enter County Pageant in Globe
Several Payson girls plan to enter the Miss Gila County Pageant at the Miami High School auditorium on November 16. An executive director explained rules at Payson High School and handed out applications. Contestants must be 17 by September 1978, single, and high school graduates with a local sponsor. Deadline to return entries is October 21. Entrants will attend rehearsals in Globe November 11 to 16 along with pageant officials.

Ground Breaks for Pleasant Valley Medical Center in Young
A groundbreaking ceremony is held in Young at 11 a.m. for the Pleasant Valley Community Medical Center on donated land east of the school. Sen. A. V. Hardt officiates, with Richard Robertson as emcee. The 22 by 32 foot clinic will serve about 15 homes weekly via Dr. Richard Meyers and open at least one day weekly. The $30,000 project is mostly donated. a potluck follows at noon.
