Four Die When Light Plane Crashes in Snowstorm West of Payson
A Cessna 172 crash during a snowstorm killed pilot Robert W. Smith, his son in law Alan L. Smith Sr., Vickie Jo Ray, and her 14 month old daughter Kendra Ray. The craft departed Safford and was to stop at Globe Payson Camp Verde Rim Rock before disappearance. Searchers from Gila County and Civil Air Patrol found the wreckage after a citizen’s distress call and multiagency response in sleet and low visibility.
