Angela Taylor age 17 was chosen as queen for the Payson RCA Rodeo August 16-18 after a close contest from 10 contestants. Attendants are Kerry Hill 18 and Leanne Adams 17. Judges were Joe Samsill and Stella Henry. The trio will star in a state wide advertising drive for the rodeo.

Fall Festival Dates and Chamber Plans Outlined
Payson announces the Fall Festival for the last weekend of September featuring an old-time fiddlers contest. A July 15 dedication is planned for the Chamber building with extensive material and financial contributions reported by President Bob Welker and Milt Frantz. Kaibab Industries will host the June 20 meeting with A M Whiting and State Senator Tony Gabaldon attending. The Rodeo grounds will host a Sept 14 picnic by A M Lewis Company.

Forests Nears Closures As Arizona Faces Severe Dry Season

Payson Council Approves Zoning Plan and Names Commission
The Payson Town Council adopted a zoning code aligned with county rules with minor local changes. Monroe DeSpain 76 native of Tonto Basin died Friday in a Phoenix hospital. He drove trucks for 49 years with a clean record and also hauled mail between Payson and Cottonwood. Survived by wife Cora of Phoenix, brother Paul, half siblings Frank Booth Nellie Black and another half sister out of state. Cremated. ashes interred Green Acres Cemetery Phoenix.
