Payson dump will close at month end as Greg Stamper takes over with Star Valley sanitary landfill opening March 1 under Gila county contract. Pine Ponderosa and Christopher Creek dumps close by end of March. new site operates 9 to 5 weekdays with about 1 dollar per car fee.

Payson Voters Face Registration Deadlines For Primaries
Payson residents were told March 4 is the voter registration deadline to vote in the Payson primary. April 8 is the general election registration deadline. Louise Hague, clerk of the Town Council, urged re registration for those who did not vote in November 1972 and have not since registered. A Ramada Inn near Highway 260 and Highway 87 was dedicated with plans for a 60 room two story motel featuring a restaurant lounge pool and riding stables to open by spring 1975.

Chester Edward Cox, known as Eddie, won Payson High School’s 1974 Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomorrow award. He led by high scores on a national written knowledge and attitude exam taken by seniors nationwide on December 4 and will receive a General Mills designed award with potential state and national honors.

Town Council divided on franchise question
The Payson Town Council split over two franchise requests from Broken Bow Gas and United Utilities at its Feb 13 meeting. Arizona Public Service, Broken Bow and United Utilities spoke Jan 23 about town benefits and company gains. A mayoral vote is needed to grant any franchise. revenue comes as about 2 percent of gross income. Franchises allow use of streets and easements for pipelines and cables with streets repaired to spec. APS offered not to add the 2 percent to customer bills. Broken Bow pledged to, United Utilities did not commit. Councilwoman Eleinscho opposed granting to Broken Bow due to higher user bills.
