Churches announce a series of Christmas events including Candlelight services, caroling, and pageants. The Community United Presbyterian, Mount Cross Lutheran, First Southern Baptist, St. Philip Roman Catholic, Assembly of God, First Baptist Pine, Church of the Nazarene, Pine Episcopal, and Payson Ward LDS plan concerts, film shows, and midnight masses through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Payson adopts radar speed checks with two-week warning period
The Payson Sheriff's office will use the Speedgun radar to monitor speeds for two weeks until January 6, warning drivers of their exact speeds. After January 6 violators may be cited, with the unit costing $1,082.50 and purchased by the Town.

PHS Concerts Tonight In Payson And Pine
Payson hosts a 7 30 p m high school band and choir program in the junior high gym with about 60 students. Pine presents elementary level Christmas music in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints Cultural Hall. Admission is 1 for adults 50 cents for high school students 25 cents for elementary. Proceeds support music department materials.

Phoenix youth struck by car amid snowball prank
A Phoenix youth, David R. Dickey, 17, was hit by a friend's vehicle near the Rim on Highway 260 while others tossed snowballs. He was taken to Payson Hospital and listed as stable. The driver, Mark Heppler, was cited for standing in the roadway.

Arizona's State Natural Resource Conservation Commissioner Andrew L Bet twy formed an informal advisory committee from across the state to improve communication between conservation districts and the state land department.
