Payette Men Receive Patent For Hydro Water Motor

John Clanton and Arthur Blanchard received a U S patent on September 24 for a Hydro Water Motor. The device, scalable to fit any running stream, uses turbine current to power irrigation pumps with minimal ongoing costs. A Payette-area plant to manufacture or install a motor is being considered.

Paulina Pence Prominent At University

Pauline Pence of Payette, a junior in the University of Idaho College of Education, is not yet a member of The Curtain, the student dramatic organization. Founded last year by Prof. J J H Cushman, it has strengthened university drama. Active members include Nampa Pearl Stalker, McKinley of Kellogg, Maxwell Shoes, and Abe Gott. Pence has two years of student drama experience and has appeared in several plays.

Fruitland Dance Hall Re opened After Court Ruling

The Fruitland dance hall reopened after county order closure since September 16. Fruitland Amusement Company sued in district court and Judge Varian ruled in favor of the defendants. The first dance since reopening was held last Wednesday. Mr and Mrs Miller returned from a vacation and orchard trip near Payette. R C Enos and family visited G F Hartwell. Dance Pavilion Reopened for Winter Dances in Payette

The Payette dance pavilion, long in disrepair, has been repaired and leased by the Payette Amusement Company to Nampa parties who will host dances through the winter. The building’s piano suffered exposure damage. A Golden Rule banquet united Payette, Ontario, and New Plymouth groups in Weiser with about eighty attendees, described as a social for salespeople to share business ideas.

Payette Oil Prospect Looks Promising at 2400 Feet

Reports from head driller Mr Stevens indicate the Payette oil well shows encouraging prospects. Depth of over 2400 feet and mud pushed up 60 feet signal improving conditions after a period of under drilling and equipment setup.

Senator Gooding to Speak in Payette

The Portia club met Monday afternoon in Chamber of Commerce rooms. Mrs. W A Coughanour chaired in Mrs Bradshaw’s absence. Girl Scouts Celebrate Banquet and Dance Evening

Girl Scouts held a banquet in the White Lunch dining room on Thursday evening. After serving the meal, tables were cleared and dancing to a piano accompanist closed the night. The junior class party followed at Payette High School with boys and girls in aprons, refreshments of cookies and cider, and dancing until eleven.

Traveling salesman robbed after Payette Roundup trip

L W Lowry and his wife of Portland were in Payette over Sunday returning to Boise when two suitcases containing about 325 in clothing and cash were stolen from their car soon after leaving Payette for Union. The pair reported the loss after reaching Union that evening.

J H Connyers and Mr Bigger, two seasoned hunters past seventy, scout hills for the deer they are allowed by law. They reminisce about older days when climbing the hill was easier and wagons carried more, now facing modern gear and vehicles. They plan to adapt with a DIY blind on the radiator and hope to sight a buck for venison.

P V Train Strikes Auto in Rustland Crossing

Vestal driving a Dodge pickup loaded with apple boxes was struck by a P V train last Friday morning. The vehicle was carried about ninety feet before stopping. Vestal suffered minor bruises and was treated in Payette by Dr. J R Woodward.

Gilmore to Spend Winter in California

B. W. Gilmore, owner of a Council dairy, will take a lay-off from daily work after renting his ranch for two years. He plans a rest of a few weeks and may head to California for the winter. He notes low roads and fine weather with early mountain snow having disappeared in his upper country.

Land Reclamation Opens Old Tract for Homesteads

State Reclamation Commissioner Swendsen reports the Thousand Springs land in Custer County will be relinquished to open it for homestead entry, with war veterans given first priority. This cleanup reflects federal policy to free unused tracts for settlement and use. Beginning Friday, Velours goods go on sale at The Settle Shop.
