Long looked for peace arrives at dawn as fighting ceases at 2 am. Millions suffer, homes ruined, and nations mourn. At home the parade in Payette honors Germany’s surrender with Red White and Blue pride, cars filling streets led by James Stanton riding a radiator flag bearer.
Letter from Franklin Kinnison aboard the cruiser St Louis recounts a brutal voyage from New York to Halifax and back, detailing 120 to 160 mph winds, towering waves, crew losses, and the crew’s survival ordeal. At the south edge of town at the Moss corner near Bro Ruth Moss’s place, a collision occurred as Martin Talbot driving a Ford with several passengers, collided with the Singer Sewing Machine agent Mr. McBride returning to Payette from Willow Creek country. McBride’s Saxon suffered damage. a child sustained minor scratches but no serious injuries.
Arthur B. Ficke of Payette, a Private in the 18th Infantry Machine Gun Company, was severely wounded in the eye on July 18. He was transferred September 3, 1915, from Base Hospital No. 6 to Base Hospital No. 4 for treatment. His family awaits further official updates.
