Keen Eye For Danger In Rocky Mountain Sheep

Charles L. Smith writes in Boys' Life about the mountain sheep, noting its keen telescope-like eyes and habit of watching from promontories. He describes the ram’s statue-like stance, graceful rock-slope movement, and debunks myths of spectacular mid-air leaps, while comparing its winter hardiness to the mountain goat and recounting years spent in Canadian Rockies among the herds. He emphasizes the sheep’s sturdiness, yet warns a 300 pound ram would break its neck if it fell.
