He notes censor rules, seasickness among fellows, friendly locals, language barriers, and his aim to become a professional writer. Probate Judge Wich Ledman resigned last Monday, triggering county commission action. Martin O. Lather was appointed to fill the vacancy but cannot serve as deputy. Sheriff R. J. Sullivan of New Plymouth serves as deputy. Luther, long-time city clerk, plans to continue in that capacity.
This week is busy with labor census forms and farm planning for summer and fall. Manager Brown of Farmers Cooperative Creamery, from North Yakima, returned with two medals from the Northwest Dairy Products show. The Payette Creamery’s butter drew top prices, with Brown noting high cream quality and two thirds of factory cream graded No. 1. Dr. Larsen and Prof. Revert judged the butter, finding no criticism of the cream used.
The War Department lists Red Cross duties to support soldiers and families. It includes distributing sweaters mufflers socks and comfort kits, emergency relief on officer request, canteen service for traveling soldiers, sheltering and transporting the wounded, and home service to families and patients. A Red Cross representative may accompany hospital trains to provide supplies and communication with families.
Mrs. Muller will lecture this evening at the YMCA about Somewhere In Prunes. Proceeds from a 1c admission go to the Red Cross as letters from boys abroad arrive. Warrant call notices list City of Payette funds and dates, with interest ceasing March 15 1918.
The Methodist Church invites all to Sunday morning for a subject Every Man To His Work and the evening address Lifes Real Meaning. The Food Administration has ordered flour mills to stop separating a small portion of low grade from Patent flour. Mills warn that flour may be slightly less white and lively, but the difference will be small.

Office of the Third Assistant Postmaster General announces a March 16 1915 change raising the fourth class parcel weight limit to seven pounds for deliveries in first second and third zones and fifty pounds in other zones. The increase aims to boost direct producer consumer links and aid wartime food distribution though not applying to parcels to Expeditionary Forces in Europe.
