Mayor Woodward Soldier Boys Leave for Camp

The Payette crowd gathered at the passenger depot to bid farewell to over 22 county youths en route to Camp Lewis. The scene drew more than 260 autos and about two thousand onlookers as families and citizens praised the soldiers, praising their patriotism and noting their role in winning the war.

Home Economics Club runs Food Administration recipe campaign

The Home Economics Department of the University of Idaho with the Payette County Committee seeks new conserve recipes from homes to publish weekly. Miss Jessie Hoover heads the effort with trained Home Economics graduates Reva Cree Tweedy Velma Spankling and Mary Noble. Contact a committee member if you have a new way to save or prepare food.

Weiser Fourth of July Party Aids Red Cross in Park

Weiser celebrates the Fourth with a full day at Oregon Trail Park hosted by the Red Cross chapter of Washington county. Activities run from 10 am to late, with lunch baskets, treeside tables, morning music and speaking, horse races in the afternoon, dancing at night, and gala receipts all benefiting the Red Cross to an expected two thousand dollars.

Rousing farewell to June draft at Payette banquet

Payette County chapters hosted a June draft eve banquet where Governor Alexander urged support for war bonds. He extolled Liberty Bonds as payments by the United States and warned Americans to forego non essential purchases. The community pledged to knit 100 sweaters and seven pairs of socks by Septem ber 1 1918 with J C Woodward as chairman urging all knitters to help.

Community Sing Planned at Central School Grounds

The Fourth of July celebration features a community sing gathering at Central School grounds at 8 30 p m with Mrs Springston arranging a splendid program. War time refreshments will be served by the Library Committee during July and August as part of each Thursday night sing. Everyone is invited to attend and boost the crowd.

Idaho Canning Company Starts Operation

The Idaho Canning Company will begin operations this week on the PSA crop though extreme heat reduced quantity. Quality remains excellent and a larger total may be canned this season than before. Secretary F M Moss anticipates a strong peaches and fruit run despite fruit shortages. A test acre of Sweet corn will be planted on the R H Woods property to appraise feasibility for canning profits. Mrs G D Shakeving reports a missing car after a Chautauqua event. Sheriff searches launched but car remains unfound. A separate note mentions Mr Hanigan planning to locate a car in a gulch near the pump house, suspected to be the work of malicious perpetrators.
