California railroad sues for damages over truck collision
The first suit by a railroad for damages against careless motor vehicle drivers has been filed in California. The railroad seeks 1925 damages from owners of a for hire motor truck that crashed into a locomotive and derailed the tender. As part of the Crossing Campaign, R. J. Clancy of the Southern Pacific reported four year figures: 676 autos struck SP trains, 13 deaths, 258 injuries, 207 gate breaches, and 20 flagmen harmed at posts.
