Hay comparisons for steers at Kansas station
At the Kansas experiment station alfalfa hay sorghum hay and kafir bay were tested for fattening steers. Alfalfa required about six pounds of corn and cob meal per pound gain while sorghum needed about 41 pounds. The Kutter hay ratio was ten pounds for a pound gain. Other stations suggest nine pounds corn per pound gain with clover and timothy. Coarse stalked stalk sorghum hay not worth as much. From experience sorghum hay may be fairly good feed.
