Excursion Train Delights Payette River Tour to Smiths Ferry
Seven passenger coaches and two engines hauled excursionists from Payette to Smiths Ferry last Sunday. From Emmett three coaches carried travelers from Boise Nampa and Caldwell, with seven hundred class engines waiting to ascend the mountain grades. The Payette river scenery drew praise while fishermen displayed trout catches on return. At Smiths Ferry six hundred gathered to see the first passenger train enter the new extension. One elderly lady reportedly tied to a pine tree while the crowd watched. The trip proved educational and the line is expected to be popular for summer camping and easy travel, replacing long stagecoach rides.
