Payette County celebrated the third Liberty loan drive with a dawn rally and a large turnout. Rev Wilsie Martin energized crowds at Payette and New Plymouth with a powerful patriotism message. Fruitland and Payette schools contributed, band and cadets highlighted the day as quotas were signed and exceeded with small-denomination bonds.

Car Fire Near Passenger Depot Sparks Quick Action
Last Sunday near the passenger depot a car backfired into the carburetor, starting a gasoline fire. Three young ladies escaped to safety while Bud drove for the garage. Jack Brandt returned with a fire extinguisher and the flames were quickly put out, leaving minimal damage to the Ford.
