Gen Z T Sweeney noted author and lecturer will speak on The Golden Age at 2 30 Sunday in the Woman s Building. Weber Quartette of Chicago and the Illinois Watch Factory band will provide music. All buildings open for visitors but no machinery exhibits will be operating.
Last Friday a family traveling with a sick horse halted in Patoka near W. K. Simcox’s home. They received meals from Mrs. Altom and neighbors and, after Charles Arnold appealed for aid, residents funded a pony purchase for the family before they resumed their journey toward Pana.
A surprise party was held Saturday at the Ballance home east of town for Leslie Ballance on his twenty second birthday. After a pleasant time, watermelons were served. Attendees included Miss Hazel Doty, Leta Jennings, Ella Young, Virgie Nichols, Dessie Armstrong, Edith Grace Selah Irvin, Clella Manion, Nellie Rogier, Eva Mery man, Myrtle Winnie Hill, and Messrs Ernest Judd, Oscar Hill, Glenn Quayle, George Rufus Stevens John Chance Magness Lucas Elmer Frizsell A D Nichols Tom Lester Ballance Mer ritt Caldwell and Harbin Chandler.
A group of young people gathered Friday evening at Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Humes home for a pleasant social with plenty of watermelons. Attendees included Misses Lillian Vail Leah Shimp Anna Alexander Nelphia Buss Anna Ballance and Messrs James Wasem Harry Simcox Harbin Hawkins Archie Underwood Edwin Gray and Warren Alexander.
