Views on the World War Front
The Axis boast of doom meets a hollow note as Britain and its allies press a steady wartime defense. Germany struggles to invade England while Britain strengthens air and sea power. Italy falters in Greece, while French Africa shifts away from Vichy. Japan withdraws troops as tensions in the Far East simmer and De Gaulle gains support in Africa. Thanksgiving guests in Centralia and Salem mark holiday observances.
