High school cheerleaders from the season include Carol Crawford Jane Nattier Betty Walker and Mary Lou Walker with assistants Patty Mullen and Luwanda Christian. Freshmen held a bake sale and Hobo Day while sophomores car washed and baked. Juniors ferried cars and seniors did odd jobs as first quarter exams approach.

Woman's Society Meeting Observes Week of Prayer in Vernon
The Woman's Society of Christian Service Vernon met on October 20 to observe the week of prayer and self denial. Members heard lessons on happiness and steps to Christ, joined by prayers and songs. Next meeting set for November 17. The Round Top Club hosted a Thursday pot luck luncheon with thirteen in attendance, voting to hold a summer picnic at the new lake.

Mrs Maggie Belcher Roberts, 72, daughter of Noah Belcher, died Oct 27 after a prolonged illness in an Atlanta Illinois hospital. Born at Patoka she married Joel M Roberts in 1906. he died in 1922. Survived by son Joel of Sterling, daughter Veretta of Clinton, granddaughter Sandra Roberts, sister Mollie Hutter, sister Elsie Gray, brother Dick Belcher, with sisters Etta and Hester and brother George deceased. Funeral set for Oct 29 at Mt Pulaski Illinois.
