Nitrogen Fertilizers Boost Sour Cherry Growth and Vigor
Bulletin 541 from the New York Agricultural Experiment Station reports moderately vigorous sour cherry trees respond to nitrogenous fertilizers even with clean cultivation and cover crops. Phosphorus or potash show little or no benefit, and first-year yields rarely rise. Second and third years may see gains as nitrogen drives growth, leaf size increases, and fruit maturity delays. Early Richmonds may grow tall and pruning alone is insufficient to restore vigor.

Several Good Varieties of Everbearing Berries
The article explains growing multiple ever bearing strawberry varieties with care for summer harvests. Do not expect a continuous crop. plant early varieties together and remove blossoms from overbearing plants during early season. Keep weeds down, promote vigorous growth, and water in dry periods.
Better Grapes Secured if New Wood Is Pruned
Cultivated grapevines yield better fruit when about nine tenths of new wood is pruned away each year, in fall or late winter. Bunches form on canes from the previous year, so prune 1927 canes to three to four buds and encourage ground shoots to replace older trunks. Each shoot should carry one to three bunches.
Protect Young Trees From Rabbits On Farms
Farmers with orchards of young trees should protect all trunks under two inches in diameter. Use protectors made from poultry netting or heavy pipe, and secure them so rabbits cannot reach the bark. Do not use tar-paper or roofing material.
Propagation from Root Cuttings in Orchards
Root cuttings reproduce mother root systems and maintain vigor. Selected mother trees show strong resistance to insects and diseases. Vegetative propagations are tested for compatibility with varieties and adaptability across a wide range of orchard conditions.
Maintaining summer comfort for dairy cows in winter
Dr. C H Eckles of the University of Minnesota urges good snug barns with wind proofing and insulation, plus ventilation and sanitary improvements. He warns cold barns that freeze manure harm milk production and raise costs, and recommends imitating summer feed and comfort to sustain winter production and prices.

Preventable Separator Losses Hit Dairy Men Hard
Iowa cow testers report that 79 associations suffered $498.30 in preventable losses from faulty cream separation in a month. The annual figure runs near $6,000 for members, with most faults due to improper setup, oiling, levelness, or speed.

Winter Shelter for Dairy Cows Reduces Feed Loss
Winter shelter lowers dairy cows stress from rain sleet and snow. Barn roofs provide cheaper protection than letting cows weather storms. Outdoor exposure reduces milk yield and increases feed needs to maintain body heat, boosting overall costs.
Dairy Notes on Silos and Silage Benefits
Dairy notes praise silos and silage for cheaper milk and herd health. Well cured hay supports herd vitality while silage provides vitamins and acts as a tonic. Proper barn ventilation stabilizes temperature, reduces frost issues, and improves stock health.
Snippet of Banter Between Souse and Officers
A jokey exchange features a speaker teasing about a favorite girl while a policeman downplays admiration and a line about Mable studying hypnotism. The dialogue hints at social flirtation and curiosity about marriage plans in a lighthearted street scene.
