By Pass Proposal Eyed By Village Leaders And State Engineer

A Patoka committee including village president James R. Snyder and trustees C. D. Martin and O. C. Schroeder met Effingham district highway official I. C. Bliss to discuss Highway 51 by pass plans. They favored simpler widening of curves over the costly by pass and noted potential property value loss and business impact. The state agency opposes the manually operated school crossing stop light as hindering traffic flow. A public hearing is planned for April in Patoka.
