Marion County Supervisors Hold Two Day Meeting on Roads and Finances
A two day Marion County Board of Supervisors session reviewed about 14000 in bills awaiting payment and focused on funding for the county secondary road system from the state's three cent gasoline tax. Petitions for road improvements were sent to the hard roads committee while plans for existing projects and a Cartier to state route 142 link were advanced. The board rejected a 300000 bond issue to finance roads, allowed 6000 in pauper claims, and directed various building and equipment actions. The Septem ber grand jury for the Marion county circuit court was also selected with members named from multiple townships.

Public debut of educated rooster in Patoka draws small audience
R L Walton of Patoka hosted the first public performance of his educated rooster named Tommy on Saturday morning June 14 at the Walton residence. Merritt Caldwell and Patoka Register editor attended as invited guests to witness the rooster’s demonstrations and violin performance. The pair doubted the rooster’s abilities but the show impressed the audience as the bird completed every maneuver. Walton believes the rooster has shown signs of talking though no vocal act occurred at this debut.

Slab Construction Begins on Route 12 at Odin
A force of men started Monday at the Odin grade crossing on route 12 to prepare the road bed for a slab to be laid over the fill. State highway engineer D. S. Magowan is in charge as machinery works, with completion expected soon. The crew will also lay slabs at Greendale Flora and Clay City fills this summer to close all gaps on route 12 across the state.

The Ford roadster owned and driven by Lee Murry reportedly set a broad jump record Tuesday when it crossed the railroad right of way and a ditch at Altom corner. Lee and his mother, Mrs. Murry, were passing another car that swung toward the Elevator building. Lee drove straight across the ditch, pulled a guy wire from the ground, and left no sign of a track. Neither vehicle suffered significant damage.
