Harper to Join St Louis Accounting Firm

Donald R. Harper son of Mr and Mrs A R Harper of Patoka has accepted a position as accountant with a St Louis firm. He will receive his bachelor’s degree in accounting at SIU Commencement June 16 and SIU Placement Service notes annual interviews with graduates from schools and industry.

Mary Patricia Gerrish daughter of Mr and Mrs William J Gerrish Patoka Illinois accepts a teaching post at Ladue Schools St Louis based on SIU Placement Service records She will receive a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the College of Educational Commencement on June 16 The SIU Placement Service interviews graduating students from government business and schools each year seeking potential employees.

Towler Family Attends Eastern University Commencement

Shobonier Mr and Mrs Elva Towler accompanied Mr and Mrs Carl Towler of Vandalia to Charleston for a Sunday evening commencement at Eastern University where Gary Towler earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. He is the grandson of the Towlers and Mrs. Clara Fields of Patoka. They visited Mr and Mrs Bill Ballance, students at the University. Mrs Darwin Moore of Patoka spent Tuesday with her brother Tom Brewer and Mr and Mrs Bill Gelsinger of Vandalia with Mrs Martha Smick.

Illinois lawmakers consider new Department of Business and Industry

Senator James H. Donnewald notes a surge of bills proposing a Department of Business and Industry to aid economic growth in Illinois communities. Measures would create a uniform food law under Public Health, stiffen penalties for illegal livestock slaughter, license livestock dealers and sanitarians, and ban benzoate of soda in meat products. The House also passes a bill for annual automobile safety inspections and a measure allowing animal use.

Terry L. Miller Graduates From Southwest Baptist

Terry L. Miller among 114 graduates from Southwest Baptist College Bolivar Missouri on May 21 earning an Associate in Arts in the colleges last year as a junior college. He plans to study further in Bolivar and join the first senior college graduating class in 1967.

Law measures move house to senate funding rehab program

A $500000 appropriation for a pilot rehab program for drug addicts was sent to the Senate by the House under the Department of Mental Health. The stop and frisk bill advancing in the House would let police search suspects of illegal activity. I will be out of town June 20 to July 11 with office hours altered on Tuesdays and Fridays.
