Vernon Screens Film Stan With Free Showing And Disney

A free screening of the talking picture Stan will take place in Vernon on Friday evening June 17 at 8 00 p m. A Walt Disney comic in technicolor will also be shown. The event is sponsored by Wayne Walton and Standard Oil agents. The film follows Stan and his family through community life with adventures from a blizzard night to a county fair tractor contest. Robert Armstrong leads the cast with Andy Clyde Peggy Shannon Kermit Maynard and many others. The movie was filmed on the old RKO-Pathe lot using extensive equipment and a large set for the county fair scene.

Benoist Sand Drive Spurs Oil Field Hopes

The C A Adams well near Benoist was drilling well toward pay depth Thursday night with prospects of reaching the Benoist sand by Friday. Centralia reports over 207 wells completed. Anew well in Avena township south of Beecher City shows potential output up to 1000 barrels daily from 60 feet of saturated sand in two beds.

The June gathering of the Ladies Fancy Work club met at Mrs. J R Wasem home with several absentees. Guest Mrs Porter Simcox Jr attended. entertainment led by Mrs Mae Good and Mrs Troyer. Contest winners were Mrs J R Wasem in Electral and Mrs A T Gray in Material. July plans mentioned with Mrs J O D Alom pending warm weather.

Rogier Holtslaw Wedding in St. Louis

Announcement of the marriage of Carl Rogier son of Mr and Mrs Artie Rogier to Miss Anice Holtslaw daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Holtslaw of Sandoval. Ceremony held in St Louis on Wednesday June 1. They returned to the couple's home here after a Missouri Arkansas and Kentucky motor trip. The bride taught in Marion County schools, most recently at Temple. The groom farms in the local community and their new home south of town will be occupied when ready.

New Engine To Be Tested Under Load Saturday

Marion County officials formed the Poultry Industry Council in Centralia to unite local poultry interests for the Seventh Worlds Poultry Congress in Cleveland from July 28 to August 7, 1939. The group aims to boost breeding, management, and marketing, citing Marion County’s egg and chicken production and potential gains from global participation. A 200 horsepower diesel engine from Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. was tested to meet increasing load at the local light plant, with commissioning expected next week as the 8 wire 3 phase system is completed and grounding upgrades finalize.

The first meeting to launch the 1938 AAA performance check will be held June 17 at the Marion County Courthouse. Farm reporters will visit each farm to obtain the 1938 cropping history, with checks to begin shortly after and aim to finish early in July.

A large crowd attended the AW Star game Saturday night won by Patoka 8 to Carbondale 6. The season opens with fielding errors and Alma, managed by Jess Donaho, set to host Patoka on Saturday, June 11. A schedule of future games lists matchups like West vs Cubs and Tigers vs Pirates through July 11, with local merchants backing the events.

Junior Girls Class Meeting Held at Barnes Home

The Baptist Sunday School junior girls met Thursday afternoon at Genevieve and Joyce Barnes home. Mrs. W. Mattier led the devotional.
