Illinois will host 63 agricultural fairs this summer and autumn, ten more than last year. The Hamilton county fair opens at McLeansboro on July 4, as state director Howard Leonard notes last year’s season was near historic best and conditions this year look favorable. Leonard adds local fairs largely replace the Illinois State Fair while it is closed for wartime use as a military depot. An official list of fair dates follows, with names, locations, and start days for Mendon, Belvidere, Urbana, Charleston, Paris, Mt. Vernon and many others across the state.
A list of county fair dates across Illinois is provided along with a note that Governor Dwight Green strongly endorses establishing a state college of veterinary medicine and surgery at the University of Illinois. The governor also announces a special legislative committee to review Cook County tax assessments and explains why a special session is not feasible.
The speaker praises women in kitchens and Victory Gardens who sustain the Illinois Central family and American teamwork during war. He urges continued effort for victory and notes wartime lessons will improve Illinois Central service once the war ends, aiming to maintain customer goodwill.
