Typhoid Fever Still A Menace
Despite full knowledge of typhoid fever the disease remains a serious health risk in Illinois with several hundred cases yearly. It is spread mainly by carriers who feel secure with clean water and milk controls, and prevention via three anti-typhoid inoculations can grant immunity for two to three years. Illinois budget debate hints at political payrolls over relief
The Illinois News Bureau notes that Democratic and Republican figures differ on biennial appropriations. It argues 1933 funds are not vastly smaller than 1931, citing large one time permanent improvements of earlier years and asserting current spending favors payrolls for party use, with sales tax and auto theft law funds highlighted. It also claims Chicago and Cook County relief largely relies on borrowing.
