George Ross of Sandoval received a telegram Saturday morning July 10 informing him that Dike Eddleman had won in the tryouts for the Olympics at Northwestern University Chicago Friday night July 7. Eddleman, a University of Illinois athlete, won the high jump and will tour Europe before returning to Illinois next fall.
Bear Creek and Bear Creek neighbors attended Sunday services led by Rev Lucas and his family who recently moved to the Monroe Smith farm. Sterling visitors Mr and Mrs Forrest Linton and daughter called on Mrs Mattie Linten, while Clifford Wilson of Downs Illinois brought Mrs Allie Lopeman of Macon Georgia to visit.
The Sunshine club met at Mrs. Dorothy Lake’s home with good attendance. Absent members were Lillian Landreia Snyder Easton Caudle and Henson. Visitors included Mrs. Betty Jores and Margaret Martin. Other items mention Mrs. Wilson visiting Decatur and Myrtle Ballance's health after a hospital stay in Robinson Illinois. Local families visited Ballance and Take families in the area.
Mrs Frances Hazelwood spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Thomas Dwyer. Mrs Virginia Payne returned to her home here Saturday.
