Hog numbers follow corn production in the United States
The article notes a close link between corn yields and hog slaughter volume. Since 1920-21 there have been three peaks in heavy hog slaughter tied to big corn crops in 1920, 1928, and 1932. A one percent rise in corn production roughly mirrors a one percent rise in hogs slaughtered and weight marketed next year. It argues that 1935 corn-hog acreage control will curb hog production and prevent later price drops.
