Illinois park system expands with 1946 gains and plans
Attendance across fifty five state parks and memorials reached about 2.5 million in 1946, roughly half the prewar average. Major gains include 1800 acres added to total holdings of over 24 000 acres valued near 10 million dollars. Wartime limits slowed construction while maintenance and development of new tracts continued. Expenditures of seven million dollars are planned for further expansion per Walter A. Rosenfield's year end report.
