Willing Workers Class Elects New Officers

The Willing Workers Class of the Methodist Church met February 8 in the church basement. New officers elected include Margaret Cox as President Vivian Jones as Vice President Pauline Jenkins as Secretary-Treasurer with Betty Griffin and Marcus Cox as reporters. A social hour followed with Jim Ballance and Robert Eagan in charge of entertainment.

Eaglin Neighbors Meet with Amanda Thalman

The Eaglin Neighbors Club met Amanda Thalman January 19 for a cafeteria dinner. Thirty one members and children attended with visiting, a gift exchange, and games. The next meeting is February 16 at Wilma Gergeni's. members will take their own service for their families.

Vernon Home Bureau Meets With 20 Members Present

Vernon Home Bureau Unit met Saturday February 4 at the home of Mrs Charles Moore with 20 members answering roll call. Bonnie Crawford attended as a visitor. Essie Robinson led prayer opening the meeting. Neil Wernsman presented the neck finishes minor lesson and demonstrated garments. Betty Howell led recreation. Mrs Elizabeth Bunton Home Advisor delivered the major lesson Personal Problems in Dress Design. Co hosts Mrs Charles Moore and Mrs Orval West served refreshments. The March meeting will be at Mae Crawford’s home.

Methodist W S C S Meets At Church February Second

The Methodist Woman's Society of Christian Service met at the church with thirty members present. Vice President Floyd Carter chaired due to the president's injury. The lesson titled The World Must Learn to Read was led by Cleo Walker with topics by Foster Brumfield and Elsie Gray. A Silent Auction is planned for March 2. Mrs. Hill reported distributing The Upper Room to sick members. A playlet featured Mrs. Ballance inviting Mrs. White to church activities, leading to a welcome. Valentine's decor graced the dining tables as hostesses served refreshments.

Roof Fire at A. L. Irvin House Saturday Morning

Fire alarm called by Mrs Pike after Mrs Joliff spotted a blaze on the roof of the A L Irvin home. Patoka volunteers and truck arrived quickly while Harold and Raymond Parker helped bucket brigades. Fire was extinguished with minor roof damage.

Patoka School Uses Tape Recorder for Diagnostic Data

Patoka Grade School pupils raise over half the cost of a tape recorder at a magazine sale and the Patoka and Vernon PTAs approve paying the balance. Recordings of reading and grammar are kept for each pupil to guide teaching and monitor progress through multiple retests.
