The Patoka pool ranked sixth in Illinois 1938 production as 17 new pools were discovered statewide. Illinois produced 22.8 million barrels with 2 234 wells completed and 408 dry holes. Local producers pumped 1 100 200 barrels, aided by the Illinois Pipe Line Company, with prorating at 50 barrels per day.

Officials warned that delaying plates harms owners and risks libel suits, noting court judgments against negligent notaries who stall motorists awaiting obsolete plates. Plates are issued in order of receipt after assignments are made and delays stem from clearance of personal checks.
