Mary Kay Phinney Crowned 1965 Homecoming Queen
A large crowd attended the 1965 Homecoming coronation honoring Mary Kay Phinney a Vernon native and Patoka High senior. She was escorted by Larry Thompson and crowned by Luke Walker as attendants Kathryn Nattier Gloria Eagan Sherrill Nattier Pat Sharp and Rhonda Irvin joined the court with music by the Jorrells.

Mrs. Joy DeFend, 64, died at 6 10 p m Friday January 29 at her Patoka home. Born in Pope Township Fayette County she lived locally and attended Patoka Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband Edward three stepsons two daughters a stepdaughter two brothers a sister and a funeral service was held at Martin Funeral Home Patoka with Rev Ralph Phillippe officiating. Burial followed at Pratt Cemetery.

Two Car Collision West of Patoka Injures Three
Three people were hurt in a two car crash four miles west of Patoka on a township road Friday afternoon. Pat Meyer 20 Jewell Cain 29 and Charlotte Alexander 28 were injured in the wreck. Pat Meyer suffered a broken elbow nose and knee surgery and is in a cast. Charlotte Alexander had stitches and Jewell Cain is reported in shock. Pat Meyer is in Vandalia hospital.
