Springfield December 22 Governor Henry Horney announces Illinois will cut the heavy tax load on general property after Supreme Court rulings upholding the retailers occupation tax and the $20 million bond issue. He says the tax levy board will materially reduce or abolish the state tax rate, enabling full payment of key funds and relief bonds while easing burden on real estate taxpayers and ensuring funds for schools and universities.

Four Injured In Head On Collision Near Patoka

Four people were injured in a head on crash near the second mile crossing south of Patoka at about 11:00 p m Monday. Howard Riley drove an Oakland coupe with James Cox and Bill Carter of Patoka. a Chicago schoolteacher drove a Model T with her sister. The collision occurred when a third car, described as a trailer, stopped on the pavement and the Chicago car attempted to pass the Riley vehicle. The two women were taken to Centralia Hospital in the Linton and Beery Ambulance. one was seriously injured and the other less so. Riley had a small facial cut, Cox a deep upper lip cut requiring stitches, Carter was unhurt. Both cars were badly damaged.
