Miss Nancy Simcox Honored At Bridal Shower Friday Night

Miss Nancy Simcox was honored at a bridal shower hosted by Mrs Zella Easton and Mrs Evelyn Jolliff at Easton’s Pa toka home on Friday night August 20. Guests placed gifts in a wishing well and enjoyed homemade ice cream and cake. Present were numerous relatives and friends with several others sending gifts by mail.

Milk Producers hold family night at city park

The Sanitary Milk Producers of the Patoka Unit hosted a district gathering at City Park on a Tuesday evening. Representatives from Salem Vandalia Ramsey and St. Paul Units attended. Bruce Pugh presided as Mr Schumacher Mr Streamter Mr J Ray of Vandalia and Fred J Blackburn spoke.

Patoka Methodist Church Revival Begins at Island Chapel

The Patoka Methodist Church with Minister M. W. Friesner announces revival services at Island Chapel every evening at 8 o'clock for two weeks led by song evangelist Miss Mary Ellen Willis and pastor evangelist Rev. Friesner. Church School at 9:30, morning worship at 10:45, youth fellowship 6:45, and other activities include Ladies Aid at 2:00 Thursday and Mid-week service at 7:30. Patoka Volunteer Fire Dept Answers Call Wednesday

The Patoka Volunteer Fire Department answered a call at about 1 30 p.m. Wednesday to the home of Mrs Florence Slagle. She had attempted to burn waste paper in a heating stove but the flue was stopped and filled the house with gas and smoke. Firemen removed the stove outside and no damage beyond smoke was reported.

Baptist Women Delay Regular Meeting to Sept 23

The Baptist Womens Missionary Society met with Mrs. Verne Nattier for the regular August session. Due to the association gathering on September 15 and 16 the meeting is postponed one week to September 23 at Mrs. D C Stringer's home. Mr and Mrs Chester Bryant of Patoka received word that their son Howard Bryant in the Army Air Corps in Germany was seriously injured. A later message from a friend indicated he was improving, but no further details were available.

Bus To Transport Patoka Vernon Students At Vandalia

Vandalia Community High School will use a bus to pick up pupils from Patoka and Vernon to attend Vandalia C H S. The service starts Thursday September 2 leaving Crawford's Service Station at 8 a.m. to take freshmen. Friday September 3 the bus leaves at 8 a.m. for sophomores juniors and seniors with half day. On Tuesday September 7 the bus departs 7 a.m. and the school opens 8:30 a.m. and closes 3:45 p.m.
