The Patoka Volunteer Fire Department answered a call at about 1 30 p.m. Wednesday to the home of Mrs Florence Slagle. She had attempted to burn waste paper in a heating stove but the flue was stopped and filled the house with gas and smoke. Firemen removed the stove outside and no damage beyond smoke was reported.

Bus To Transport Patoka Vernon Students At Vandalia
Vandalia Community High School will use a bus to pick up pupils from Patoka and Vernon to attend Vandalia C H S. The service starts Thursday September 2 leaving Crawford's Service Station at 8 a.m. to take freshmen. Friday September 3 the bus leaves at 8 a.m. for sophomores juniors and seniors with half day. On Tuesday September 7 the bus departs 7 a.m. and the school opens 8:30 a.m. and closes 3:45 p.m.
