Automobile license fees fund 600 miles of road paving
In seven months of 1930 the Illinois Automobile department reported license fees totaling 21.5 million dollars, with August 1 receipts at 17.86 million. The funds will finance about 600 miles of asphalt pavement at roughly 30 thousand dollars per mile, all flowing into the state road fund.

Steam plants boost electricity output as water power declines
In 1929 steam plants increased electricity output nearly 20 percent from 1928 while hydro plants fell. Total output rose 11.8 percent to about 90 billion kWh, with steam supplying 66 percent and hydro 3 percent. Rural electrification and farm service grew, and average revenue per kWh fell 8.3 percent.
