Village streets in Patoka were freshly oiled and blotched with fine chat. A heavy asphalt base coat was laid in a wide swath and covered with blotting hat to create a cityfied appearance.

Arnolds Return From Nice Trip To Yellowstone

Garl and Freda Arnold and daughter Margaret and Edwin and Thelma Arnold returned last Thursday from a ten day vacation through the Black Hills Bad Lands Yellowstone National Park and Colorado. They met Ralph Basset of Billings Montana and Mr and Mrs Marvin Basset and children from east of Patoka at Yellowstone. The Arnolds visited their uncle Mr and Mrs W K McNicol in Denver Colorado and Mr and Mrs Dean Good in Colorado Springs.

Kent Crawford showed his yearling Holstein heifer at the Illinois State Fair and placed twelfth in the Junior Show among a large class. Eligible participants include 4 H clubs and F F A Chapters.

Colorful parade to precede antique auto show at state fair

Springfield Illinois August fifteenth nineteen cars antiques special merit and sports cars entered in the Antique Auto and Sports Car Meet at the 1955 Illinois State Fair will join a colorful parade in front of the grand stand before the 100 mile auto race Saturday. Secretary of State Charles F Carpentier said the entry list is the largest in five years. The exhibit shows cars from 1902 to 1955 in a tent near the Grandstand entrance. Carpentier will lead the parade in last year’s champion car. Judging will occur in the morning with awards at a banquet that evening.

Willing Workers honor Jones family at church breakfast

The Willing Workers class of the Methodist Church held an 8:00 a.m. breakfast at Hopkins Cafe in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Darvin Jones and their daughters Valda Lyra and Sherry who are moving to Florida. Forty five members and guests enjoyed hot cakes and coffee as a television lamp was presented to the Jones by the class.

Veterans hospital treatment for Leslie Wasem grows hopeful

Mr. Leslie Wasem entered Veterans hospital at Marion Friday for medical treatment and tests. Mrs. Wasem reports he is feeling somewhat better. Rev. Kerr resigns as pastor of Patoka Baptist Church. All Day Picnic at Conservation Club Lake Site Planned

The Conservation Club schedules a full day and evening picnic on September 3 at the new lake site east of Patoka to raise funds for improvements. The event features a fish and chicken dinner, concessions, a merry go round, dunking machine, a fishing derby, casting contest, and a district band program with Hill Billy singers. If rain forces postponement it shifts to September 10 with no re advertisement.
