Across the Atlantic A True Account of an American Boy
An adventure told in first person follows an American youth working as a muleteer for the British government. He describes rail yard escapades across Indiana Illinois and Missouri, evading police, sleeping in fields and boxcars, and finally returning home to Shobonier after six months away. He recounts meeting old friends at Union Station in St Louis and notes several companions who returned from the front in South Africa and to Newport News. The writer closes with reflections on the journey and homecoming.
