Vernon man injured on narrow bridge collision report

Jess Mays of Vernon was seriously hurt in a Tuesday morning auto crash on a narrow bridge north of Shobonier when his car collided with a Hayes truck. He was admitted to Greer hospital in Vandalia. Louie Wasem has been critically ill for several days.

Patoka Farmers Elevator Ships 27 Car Loads Wheat

A large wheat crop is marketed from Patoka as the area’s main receiving station, with 27 car loads shipped in July from Vandalia to Sandoval and Kinmundy to Keyesport. Oats are being threshed, bins filled, and corn prospects look good pending rainfall to aid early planting.

Staley Oil Co. erected a derrick on the O. L. Wadkins property on the town west side business district Tuesday after arriving Monday. Other owners include Mrs. Wm Cahill D. R. Livesay First State Bank and C. D. Martin. Staley holds leases on the school house property and nearby sites arranged by J W Alexander and B S Livesay of the Oil Exchange.

Frederick Drilling Advances on Claude Adams City Lots

Frederick continues drilling on Claude Adams city lots with a third well started by Mr. Frederick. Coleman and Blosser spadd ed onto the Frederick well this week. The rig from the Thos Altom well was moved to this location. Drilling has passed 1000 feet on the second well on the Chas Hill lots.

E. D. Skipper of Jefferson Texas shipped in a rotary rig that arrived Wednesday morning on the Howard Riley property on the east side of town. Two rigs owned by the Staley Oil Co. arrived from Texas Thursday morning. both are rotary drilling machines.

Huddlester Drilling on West Main Street

Drilling operation led by D. D. Huddleston spudded in on the Mrs. Katie Nattier site in the west town business district. G. A. Filis Fdna Maree and S. M. Spureearn hold leases as T. M. Bain of Owensboro Kentucky acts as contractor. Drilling reached 600 feet by Thursday with activity noted Friday July 80.

Plans submitted for Patoka electric light plant upgrade

At a Friday night meeting Mayor Beery noted plans by Warren and Van Praag of Decatur for a new light and power plant. The proposal includes power units and a revised distribution system. Engineers will receive six percent for their work. Changes include larger power units and altered plant management with Denver Adams leaving and Robert Johnstone resigning. Bob Caldwell joins the team to work with Orville Schroeder, plant manager.

Traffic Regulations On Patoka Main Street

Town to regulate parking and enforce slower speeds along Patoka Main Street to reduce hazards from wrong side parking and fast driving. Willams leads enforcement under village council orders as school reopens and children cross near two crossings on the east side. Action aims to prevent accidents before someone is killed.

Dexner well drills 1165 feet on Christian Church block

The Dexner well on the Christian Church block west of town drilled to about 1165 feet with 10 inch casing set last week. A recent fishing job caused a delay but drilling has progressed rapidly since tools were recovered.
