Swiss Mountaineers Conquer Everest Twice

A Swiss team climbed Everest twice last week, achieving the first double ascent of the world’s highest peak. Edith Moon of North Hollywood tied up and gagged by a bandit who escaped with about $7,100 from the Fire side Inn at 15927 Ventura Boulevard. Moon described concealment of five money bags and a gun wielded by the assailant in the restaurant office.

Four killed as truck hits rail train in Ohio wreck

Four people died and about 15 were injured when a truck crashed into the Morning Steeler en route from Pittsburgh to Cleveland near Atwater Ohio. The collision derailed five cars and damaged 2,500 feet of track. A. J. Fisher of Pittsburgh was among the deceased.

Supersonic Airliner Hinted by Lockheed at Moffett Field

Lockheed Aircraft Corp hinted today at plans to build a supersonic airliner at Moffett Field. Hall Hibbard, Lockheed general manager, disclosed a Lockheed missile the company says it has been flying for some time. No missile projects for Lockheed have been announced by the Defense Department. Hibbard noted Lockheed's new supersonic F104A jet fighter described as a missile with a man in it due to its very short wings.

Stead Baxter, a bus depot employee, fell asleep at the mayor's inauguration banquet in Huddersfield. His chair tipped, nearly landing on a magistrate, as Baxter explained the heavy sherry and wine made him sleepy. Ushers removed him and another guest. the mayor said there was no need to apologize.

French Mob Seizes Reservists Home in St Nazaire

About 1,500 demonstrators stormed police lines in St Nazaire as 200 reservists scheduled to depart for Algeria fled from a crowded station. Police used tear gas and grenades. several were injured. Demonstrators carried reservists home and the crowd dispersed only after the train left. Similar action feared in Nantes.
