Frank Noxon James, 93, a former California state legislator and pioneer Los Angeles attorney, died yesterday. He helped organize the California State Bar and served in the legislature in 1901. He was a past president of the Los Angeles Bar Association.

Highland Park officer arrested Edwin Gilweil a 29 year old mechanic on a drunk charge after he threatened to kill himself and his wife and smashed furniture. He possessed two deer rifles a loaded 12 gauge shotgun and 50 rounds of ammunition. Mrs Dot Gilweil and four children were unharmed.
In Van Etten New York during a thunderstorm Fire Chief Pete Butts grabbed a bottle from a cooler and lightning struck the firehouse. The bottle shattered in his hand but he was not seriously hurt, only briefly numb.

In Port Huron Michigan a banquet to raise funds for hospitals left more than 100 attendees ill with suspected food poisoning. Doctors and nurses rushed to hospitals. 37 remained hospitalized, none in serious condition. Food samples were sent to the State Health Department for analysis.
