House Votes Veteran Pension Increase
The House Veterans Committee moved to boost pensions and disability payments by about 100 billion dollars over 50 years. The measure faces doubt as it could raise costs from 1.4 billion in year one to over 100 billion by 2000. The American Legion backed a plan granting a 105 dollar monthly pension to wartime veterans meeting income limits. Current 100 percent disabled monthly pay would rise to 250 dollars, with 10 percent disability up from 17 to 20 dollars.
