Justice Black Denies Chessman Stay of Execution

Justice Black refused another stay for Daryl Chessman allowing a 14th appeal to the U S Supreme Court. Chessman remains scheduled for execution at California’s San Quentin gas chamber next Friday. A L Wirin of the ACLU sent the request last Tuesday and will pursue a certificate of probable cause of appeal.

Archbishop Koenig Injured In Yugoslavia Car Crash

Cardinal Franz Cardinal Koenig archbishop of Vienna was seriously hurt as his car collided head on with a truck near Varazdin Yugoslavia. Two of his nephews traveling with him were killed and the truck driver was lightly injured.

Man in Rage Smashes TV Then Kills Self

Paramount reports James Douglas Nuttall a 50 year old heavy equipment operator died after smashing a television with a three legged stool and then shooting himself in the left eye at his home on Orange Avenue. His wife Florence Pearl Nuttall 50 said they had been drinking since 5 p.m. and she had turned on the late movie prompting the attack.

Search for Cameraman in Jamaica Plane Crash

UPI reports a light-plane crash off the Jamaican coast near Annette Bay. Photographer George Schmidt, 55, is missing presumed drowned.
