President Eisenhower said Harold Stassen told him he had decided to ask the convention for permission to second the nomination of Vice President Richard Nixon for a second term. Ike said he would report the development to Harmony meeting in San Francisco.
Foster Dement, 49, shot his divorced wife Sue Dement, 40, three times as their children watched after breaking into her home. Daughter Connie, 16, cried for help as the 38 revolver fired. Dement was booked on suspicion of murder and denied making a statement. Police reported prior threats after a divorce 11 months earlier.
SAN DIEGO continues the search for William G. Bonelli a former California liquor official charged with criminal conspiracy and awaiting extradition. Bonelli was last seen July 27 in Phoenix Arizona where his car was found in a downtown garage. The Arizona Supreme Court ordered Bonelli 61 jailed pending a hearing on his appeal to block extradition to California.
A plane from the Alameda Naval Air Station flew an emergency shipment of antitoxin to Red Bluff before dawn today for a family of three believed to be victims of botulism. Dr. Lynn Wolfe of Red Bluff requested the action and spent the night with the stricken father, mother, and son. Names are not released by the county hospital.
Former adjutant general of the Army Maj. Gen. Edgar T. Conley, aged 82, died Monday. He was born in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Egypt signaled potential measures against British and French ships in the Suez Canal Zone if pilots resign or feign sickness to disrupt traffic. Police report a thief struck a Knoxville residence by night stealing pants hidden under a pillow and a wallet with $25. Horace Lindsey, the resident, described how the pants had been removed earlier in the month and suspects no further details at this time.
