Missing Waterloo girl feared to be kidnapped at Balboa Bay

Police in Newport Beach search Balboa Bay for 5 year old Barbara Blaiser of Waterloo Iowa who disappeared while at the beach with her father and aunt. Lifeguards dragged a shallow channel for eight hours as the 28 man police force combed the area without results. The family, moving west, left Barbara’s brother Larry behind with relatives in Waterloo. Barbara is described as having pigtails and a missing front tooth.

Army Payroll Theft Suspect Arrested

Army captain James P. Scilley Jr. 32, twice decorated for heroism, is arrested on a federal charge of stealing an $11,830 Army payroll from Ft. Ord California. He used the name James B. Girl 12 Questioned in Fatal Shooting of Neighbor Boy

A 12 year old girl was detained for questioning by juvenile authorities in the fatal shotgun shooting of 11 year old Kenneth Dukes. He died in a hospital an hour after the incident at the girl’s home. Police quote the girl saying she pointed the gun at him because he followed her inside. Identity not disclosed.

Edward Bailey Shields 21, one of 11 Orange County Jail escapees, surrendered in Santa Barbara today. He and ten others fled by venturing up a ventilator shaft and descending four stories on mattress-strip ropes. seven were recaptured, three remained at large. Shields, jailed on burglary charges, surrendered after his 18-year-old wife Francine Shields pleaded on TV and in papers for his surrender.

Bride in Teardown Rampage After Haircut Sparks 5-Gun Standoff

Barbara Mihich, 23, enraged by husband William Mihich's haircut, fired nearly 50 rounds from multiple firearms at homes and a police car in Van Nuys. Officers used tear gas to end a half hour exchange. She claimed abuse and blamed her husband for the hair trimming.
