Satellites Hunt Source of Potent X Rays in Space

Dr Gordon P Garmire spoke at Caltech about X ray astronomy with satellites planned to orbit above Earth. He noted M-87 as a luminous source, 30 X ray sources verified so far, including Crab Nebula with a pulsar. SAS A and future Explorer satellites are expected to locate many new X ray sources and improve spectra by about 32 times.

Two Pasadena Men Appointed to USC Center Board

Two Pasadena area men were named among 19 leaders appointed to the newly formed board of councilors for the Von Klein- Smid Center for International and Public Affairs at the University of Southern California. Kinneloa Debris Disposal Hearing Planned by Pasadena

The Pasadena Planning Commission will hold a Wednesday hearing on November 12 to discuss a Los Angeles County Flood Control District application to dispose of silt and debris from debris basins into a canyon north of the police pistol range in Kinneloa Canyon. County officials note the site spans county and Pasadena Water and Power lands and was previously used under a temporary permit for emergencies.
