Officer Peter Hall made a routine traffic stop at County Park in Arcadia late Sunday. A warrant for driver Anthony Ralz, 33, of Azusa, led to the discovery of a sawed off carbine and a snub nosed .38 pistol under the front seat. Passenger Frazein J. Mggins, 45, of Seattle, was arrested as explosives were found in the vehicle. Both men jailed on suspicion of attempted burglary after reports of a nearby home invasion within the hour.

Twenty families travel to the YMCA camp five miles from Big Bear Lake for Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce annual service project at Juff Lake. Jaycees report dock repairs underground wiring added to cabins and overhead wiring replaced. Planning the project are Jim Rosier Bill Emerson Jim Hayes John Eisele and Mike Makte, chairman.
Two local area soldiers, Sgt. John J. Wiley and Pfc. Douglas W. Day, were reported as killed in action in Vietnam by the Defense Department in the past week. Wiley was the son of Mr and Mrs Thomas M Wiley of 401 N Phillips Ave West Covina California. Day was the son of Mr. and Mrs Harald W Day of Leopold Ave Hacienda Heights California.
La Canada residents received garden awards at a ceremony in the Great Hall of the Hospitality House at Descanso Gardens. Winners included local homeowners such as Mr. and Mrs. Robert Z. Green and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth MacIver, with honorable mentions for several others and a contribution from the La Canada Valley Garden Club to La Canada Elementary School. The event featured garden showings, a high school choir, refreshments, and hostesses from the Beautiful organization.
