City of Hope wins approval for $18 million expansion plan

Delegates at the City of Hope National Biennial Convention in Los Angeles approved an 18 million six year expansion program for the City of Hope complex. Plans include an 8 million Northwest Hospital building a 7 million Northeast Hospital structure a 2 million Children's Hospital and a 2 million research complex. The expansion totals 38 million over six years, adding a new radiology department pathology outpatient services hematology labs and expanded researchers facilities. Emanuel H. Fineman was co elected president of City of Hope for the fourth time to lead the board.

Police Car Set Afire in Pasadena Meeting House

Police officers Jin Larsh and Bob Sojka spoke at a Crime Alert gathering on Summit Ave when a youth said their patrol car was on fire. Investigators found vandals had placed Marmmeble Nquid on the vehicle and set it alight, causing damage to the hood roof and trunk.

Hoover Rites Held for Herbert Hoover Jr in Pasadena

Private funeral services were held Monday at St Al Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena for Herbert Hoover Jr. youngest son of a former president. The 58 year old succumbed July 9 after a brief illness at Huntington Memorial Hospital. Hoover, an engineer and expert in radiology, served as undersecretary of state during the Eisenhower administration and later led the Automobile Club of Southern California. He resided in Pasadena and leaves a widow Margaret two daughters a son and two brothers.

Pasadena Zoning Hearings Set On Variance Requests

Pasadena zoning officials will hold a public hearing Thursday at 9 at City Hall to consider variances. Pasadena attorney Charney T. F. Dickey Jr alias Bal Dickey, 37, of Pasadena, failed to secure bail at Pasadena Municipal Court on six counts of forgery and related charges. Pry Bar Burglar Loots Two Pasadenans of 10000

Detectives sought a pry bar burglar who stole 36000 from the sale of a Pasadena horse racing figure and about 4000 in valuables from a Pasadena psychoanalyst residence. The thief pried open an Arroyo Seco home, took silver trophies and furs, then opened a second home across the Arroyo, taking stereo gear and other items.

Murder trial jurors resume as verdict remains undecided

In Pomona California 33 year old Arnulfo Galvan Maldonado faces first degree murder charges after the decomposed body of 22 year old Anta Arteaga was found February fifteenth. Prosecution pushes for first degree murder citing living together four years and a planned marriage. Defense says affair had ended and defense claims self defense in a struggle when the gun fired. Judge Paul Egly presided.
