Computer Blamed in Slowdown in Pasadena Billing

City Manager D Phillips says a switch to a new computer based utility billing system will delay bills by 60 to 75 days during the transition. Jobs are shifted as temporary help fills vacated posts while outside workers fill gaps until July 1. Residential accounts face four months of bills or split bills to avoid further delays. Police Probe West Covina School Blast

Police are searching for clues after an explosion shattered a bank of lockers at South Hills High School in West Covina Sunday night. Debris covered a 24 by 40 foot area as witnesses described a car leaving the scene. A male Caucasian suspect, about 5 feet 10 inches, fled in a car after the blast.

Authorities warn lead in air as public health risk

Ford says it can build cars with regular unleaded engines when fuel supply is adequate. Major oil firms claim lead-free gas can be produced if demand grows. If the public spoke in one voice it would tell oil firms to get the lead out and urge automakers to move toward unleaded engines.
