Caltech Seismologist to Receive Statewide Award at Los Angeles Exhibit

Schools weigh ethnic balance in Pasadena cluster plan

Panel of about 60 residents questioned the proposed three high schools cluster in Pasadena as acting superintendent Cortines described a coded enrollment plan to balance ethnic groups. He said students would be assigned by code rather than district, preserving three separate schools with shared facilities. Hornbeck warned minority numbers could reach 50 percent in four to nine years, urging a stable multiracial system and noting tax needs. Meetings continue at Muir High and Pasadena High with similar information sessions.
